Math Centres November

We are learning to:
-identify sets
-count using one-to-one correspondence
-recognize the numbers 1-10

Our favourite centre (Dreambox Learning)
See our "math page" for the link!

First, we read the book Ten Black Dots by Donald Crew. Next, we brainstormed pictures we could make with black dots. Then, we made our own class book!

Our Weather Inquiry

A rainbow sparked a weather inquiry

Today, during our outdoor play, we saw a rainbow in the sky!

We wondered:

- Where do rainbows come from?

Our ideas about rainbows:

-       -   “Rainbows come from the sun”
-       -   “A rainbow comes out when it is raining”
-       -   “A fairy paints the sky”
- "Rainbows come from the clouds"

The Plan

We decided that we need to learn about the weather to find out more about rainbows.

We wonder:

-Where do rainbows come from?
-What type of weather do we need to have a rainbow in the sky?
-Do rainbows come out in the summer and winter?
-Can we make a rainbow?
-How do we know if a rainbow will come?

Our investigation
We explored materials at the science centre. We found ways to make rainbows!

"The sun shines into the prism and then we see a rainbow"

"We can make a rainbow with a CD

Our rainbow inquiry sparked a new idea for our dramatic play centre!

We wondered:
-What do we need at a weather station?
-What type of weather can we report?
-How can we show weather that is coming?

This week we read a fictional book about clouds. Next week, we will read a non-fiction book about clouds and try an experiment. We want to learn more about clouds!

We wonder:

Where do the clouds come from?

How does the rain get in the clouds?

How does snow get in the clouds?

How big are the clouds?

What are clouds made of?

Do tornadoes come from clouds?
